Are you watching re-runs?
First, it’s funny how many people come up to me still and say, “We watch you every morning,” or ask, “Buch, what are you doing on TV tonight?”
Well, I’m not sure what they’re watching, but I’ve been off Channel 2 now for over a year.
I used to stop and explain that I’m no longer there, etc., but it’s too time consuming. Now I just say, “thanks for watching” or “you’ll have to tune in to find out.” It’s much easier that way.
For those that don’t know, I’m going it alone with my new business buchtvguy.com. I’m also doing an array of things from writing for your Dayton City Paper and other publications around the valley to emceeing events. Also, I’m offering my services as an on-air business spokesman for radio and television.
But what’s really taken off is our “Buch Back on the Beat” social media videos for businesses or events. You’ll have to check them out on my website and be sure to subscribe to my YouTube channel. We’ve had over 10,000 views!
Thanks to all of you who have viewed them and for those who haven’t … what the heck are you waiting for?
Is this thing on?
A few years ago, I was involved in an automobile accident that was my fault. Now, no one was hurt except, maybe, my pride and my wallet because my insurance went up.
But my company has a way to forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. They mailed me one of those devices you hook up to your car that monitors your driving habits. Apparently, it measures your speed, braking habits and the like.
Good thing it doesn’t record my voice because it wouldn’t be pretty – especially with the way other people drive. Thank goodness it won’t record video, just in case there’s a hand gesture or two. But to remind myself I’m being watched, I’ve taped a sign on the middle of my steering wheel: “BE CAREFUL, THE MAN IS WATCHING.”
You know, just in case I forget. I’ll let you know if I passed…
Hey, have any of you out there gone through the same thing? Let me know!
On a related note, my eldest just took and passed her driver’s test. While looking over some of the questions, I began wondering if I could take the test cold and pass. Wow, it’s amazing the stuff you forget: four-way stops, assured clear distance, passing a stopped school bus on a divided highway, etc., etc.
Chances are, I’d miss a few. I’m very happy I don’t have to take it.
My house in Five Oaks has been in my family since 1925. When I purchased it from my mom a few years ago it needed an update.
So you know how life gets real busy, right? It still needs an update, but now, if The Brady Bunch would come back with a remake, they could shoot it here because it’s pure 1975.
I think what I need to do is one room at a time. Rome wasn’t built in a day, you know …
The problem is where to begin. The yellow walls in one bedroom, the green tile in the bathroom or the shag carpeting upstairs. Yikes!
Does anyone out there need a location for a period 1970’s TV show or movie? Look no further. Heck, I may even feather my hair again.
Would you like a second mortgage with that?
Finally, if you follow me on Facebook or Twitter, you know I occasionally rant about gasoline prices … OK, I rant a lot. When one is driving a soccer dad van like me (and my kids don’t play soccer), every penny counts.
When I purchased the vehicle in 2009, gas was hovering around $2 dollars and change, but now, with it almost two bucks more, I’ve gone from a $45 dollar fill-up to one approaching $90.
I know many are in the same boat and I can’t really wave the magic wand and drop the cost per gallon, but have you seen the smart phone app GasBuddy?
It’s sort of cool and will list the lowest price for gas in your area. If you post a price, you’ll earn points and be entered into a drawing for gas cards.
It’s also nice to dial up the prices in California and Hawaii, which we best by a dollar or so.
Remember: when you’re filling up, there are others suffering worse.
That helps me a little.
