I’m sure you know by now that this weekend, Troy will be the center of the universe.
Ok, not really, but if you ask anyone up Miami County way they’ll concur that the ‘Gentlemen of the Road Stopover’ event is a pretty big deal and the hottest ticket in ‘these here parts.’
Troy Mayor Michael Beamish said, ‘This ‘Stopover’ will be as big or bigger than when George W. Bush brought 25,000 people to downtown in 2004. I’m calling this an ‘Epic Event’ for our city and region.”
For those that don’t know what all the commotion is about.
Mumford & Sons, are an English folk rock band that consists of Marcus Mumford (lead vocals, guitar, drums, mandolin), Ben Lovett (vocals, keyboards, accordion, drums), Winston Marshall (vocals, banjo, guitar, resonator guitar), and Ted Dwane (vocals, string bass, drums, guitar)
They’ve taken the music industry by storm, winning major awards and a world-wide following.
In 2012 they began hosting the Gentlemen of the Road Stopovers, a global series of events in small cities and towns around the world.
According to the band’s website:
“We spent months selecting unique places, creating venues, building the lineups, planning the aftershows, and getting to know the local people who helped make the whole thing work.”
“The results were some of the most amazing and memorable shows we’ve ever played – and we’ve played a lot of shows! We hope those of you who made it had as much fun as we did.”
“This year we’ve expanded the lineups, changed the format, and worked to improve the experience in ways big and small, but the spirit of the project remains: a music festival that celebrates local people, food and culture, where everyone pitches in and everybody gets something back.”
And it doesn’t get any better to hold a wonderful event like this, than Troy, Ohio USA!
So, Friday and Saturday, August 30 and 31, with some additional fun on Thursday, the Miami County city will roll out the red carpet for this venue and the entire Miami Valley is invited.
And the economic impact will be outstanding.
Think about it, hotels and restaurants filled, Troy and surrounding cities and town’s shops will be brimming with brisk business.
And another cool thing, it also offers some the fine local talent we have here to ‘show off their stuff’’ in front of the huge crowds.
One of those local bands is ‘Prophets Mire’ who will be performing on Thurs. Aug. 29th at 6:30 p.m. & Sat. Aug. 31st at 8:30 p.m bringing their ‘classic rock sound with a little bit of the groups influences mixed in.’ According to Dale Lutz, who plays lead guitar and the mandolin.
They couldn’t’ be more excited.
‘This is gonna be awesome, we can’t wait.’ Lutz says.
The bands been around since 2010 and crafting original music, have released one cd so far with another on the way.
It’s an interesting story how they got the ‘gig.’ (That’s band speak for a job.)
“We entered a contest online and our original music was picked by the Mumford panel!” Dale says.
He recently played with the legendary rock group Telsa, who have been around since 1982 and sold 14 million albums.
“Just got the opportunity to be on stage and play with them in Toledo this past August 4. People come up to me and say, ‘Hey, you’re the dude that played with Telsa.’ Pretty cool.” Lutz says.
Now don’t get me wrong, playing the Mumford & Sons venue is the biggest so far for this bunch of up and comers, but there was another huge highlight.
“We played the ‘Wham Bam Thank You Jam.’ That was the biggest crowd so far, but we are primed and ready for this great opportunity to play in our backyard and expose our music to a hometown and national crowd.” Dale says.
Playing before crowds is becoming ‘no big deal’ for this bunch of guys, but the true enjoyment is sharing their passion for music.
“It’s cool the reaction we’re getting and a personal satisfaction knowing that our hard work in the basement for the last 3 years is paying off and its what we love to do!” Lutz says.
And what do you want folks to take away from a Prophets Mire concert?
“Hopefully a cd and a few new fans.” He says.
Ok, where do you see the band ten years from now?
“With ten cd’s and a whole LOT of new friends.” Dale says with a laugh.

“Right now we’re just enjoying life and our biggest fun is watching strangers dance to our music. It’s wonderful.” Dale says.’
And for this event, Miami County officials and business owners are dancing all the way to the bank.
